Anthropic's IPO Nears as Wall Street Waits for Its Public Filing
Anthropic, the company behind Claude, is edging closer to a public listing that could be among the largest in history. But key details, including its public S-1, are still unconfirmed.

October 10, 2026 — Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind the Claude models, is moving closer to what could become one of the largest initial public offerings in history. But as of this week, several key details remain unconfirmed, and investors are still waiting for the company's full public filing.
What we know for sure
On June 1, 2026, Anthropic announced that it had confidentially submitted a draft registration statement, known as a Form S-1, to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The company said the filing gives it the option to go public once the SEC finishes its review, and that the number of shares and the price had not been set. The announcement came about a week after a funding round valued the company at $965 billion, according to NPR.
Bloomberg has reported that Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase are working on the offering, as summarized by Mobile World Live.
A shifting timeline
Early reports pointed to a listing as soon as October. In early September, Reuters reported that the IPO had been pushed back to mid-October at the earliest, with the goal of completing it before the U.S. midterm elections on November 3. That same report said Anthropic could seek a valuation of up to $2 trillion, according to IT Reseller. Reuters also noted the schedule could still change.
More recent analysis suggests the timeline may stretch further. A market analysis published this week by Kalkine described mid-November as the earliest reported listing date and pointed to investor meetings on October 14 as the next key milestone.
The S-1 question
Reports about Anthropic's public prospectus are mixed. According to Yahoo Finance, Reuters reported on September 28 that the S-1 had arrived, describing large cloud and computing commitments and a governance structure giving the co-founders majority voting power. Yahoo Finance noted, however, that the document had not appeared on the SEC's public EDGAR database.
Investing.com separately cited an October 6 Reuters report saying the filing discloses CEO pay of $18 million and a pledge by the co-founders to give 80% of their equity to charity.
Other trackers say no public prospectus had been found on EDGAR as of October 8. That matters: SEC rules require a confidential filer to make its S-1 public at least 15 days before starting an investor roadshow, so an October listing would need that public document first.
Why it matters
A successful Anthropic IPO would be a major test of how much public investors are willing to pay for fast-growing AI companies. It could also shape the path for rivals: OpenAI is reportedly eyeing a listing in 2027, according to Bloomberg's reporting cited by Mobile World Live.
What to watch next
- A public S-1 posted on the SEC's EDGAR database
- An official price range, share count, exchange and ticker
- The start of a formal investor roadshow
- Whether the listing lands before or after the November 3 midterms
